Composite Fillings

In years past cavities in posterior teeth were filled with amalgam (silver) fillings. These restorations were retained by creating undercut preparations which inherently weaken the tooth. Over the years this can cause the tooth to break. Today we can bond composite restorations in teeth with much more conservative preparations which in turn weakens teeth much less and we see far fewer broken teeth.
